Join us for The Luton Sleepout
12 February 2026
Sadly, Luton has some the highest rates of homelessness in England. Tonight, thousands of men, women and children will find themselves without a bed or sleeping in an insecure place. Help us do something about that by joining The Luton Sleepout.
Homelessness often conjures up images of rough sleeping, but that isn’t always the case. Across Luton, homelessness takes many forms from sofa surfing with no fixed address, to families getting by in temporary accommodation, and women fleeing domestic abuse.
Homelessness and domestic abuse
Domestic abuse is one of the main causes of homelessness among women. In 2023, the national homelessness charity, St Mungo’s, reported that almost half of their female clients had experienced domestic abuse. And research from Safe Lives found that 87% of women leave refuges for continued temporary accommodation. With Luton currently experiencing a severe shortage of social housing, survivors of domestic abuse will find it increasingly hard to secure safe accommodation.
What is The Luton Sleepout?
At Stepping Stones, we believe everyone in Luton deserves a home, so we’re teaming up with Noah Enterprise and IMPAKT Housing & Support to help make that a reality. On Saturday 21st March we’ll be spending the night sleeping out at Luton Point. We will be experiencing just a small part of what many people facing homelessness endure every day. We’d love you to join us for this special event designed to raise awareness of homelessness and generate vital funds.
Two designated sleeping locations have been chosen to ensure the event is inclusive and safe for all. Those aged 18 and over will sleep out on the roof on top of the shopping centre. Schools, youth clubs and families with under-18s will sleep inside the shopping centre. However, that still means a hard cold floor and a sleeping bag! Everyone taking part is encouraged to fundraise ahead of the night. All money raised will support us and the other charities involved.
“We are really excited to be part of this event, working in partnership with these other fantastic organisations. This sleepout represents what is great about our town – community, collaboration and commitment. By spending just one night away from home, sleeping out, we hope to raise awareness of all types of homelessness and vital funds to support us in helping the people who need it. Thank you for being part of it with us.”
