Domestic Abuse Support
We help women experiencing domestic abuse.
Everyone has the right to feel safe, especially in their own home.
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone. It’s not OK and you don’t have to accept it.
Our support is free of charge. We also provide free childcare for our clients.
How we help
One to one support
Every woman accessing our service is allocated a Women’s Support Practitioner. They will be your main point of contact and will:
- Work with you to assess your needs, strengths and goals
- Provide emotional support, tailored practical advice and guidance
- Make sure you’re in contact with the right specialists both within and outside of Stepping Stones
- Advocate on your behalf with outside agencies to make sure your voice is heard.
Counselling
We provide counselling for clients who require intensive support to understand, address and move on from trauma. Initially, you will usually be offered treatment for 12 weeks.
Counselling is part of our wider service offer and is usually accessed after attendance at one of our group programmes.
Group Programmes
Many women facing abuse spend years focusing negative emotions inwards or outwards. This can have damaging consequences for the women, their families and communities. We help you move on from trauma and abuse by offering a range of group programmes including:
Understanding Anger is an 8 week programme that explores aggression and violence in different areas of your life, how you can express your emotions and make positive changes.
Own My Life is a 12 week course, which helps women who have been subjected to abuse regain ownership of their lives. During the course, you’ll be given an Own My Story Journal to help you reflect on your own experiences and continue the journey to healing and recovery.
